Note-taking – Evaluating Your Effectiveness
Reflect and record your note-taking progress. Some questions to ask yourself:
- Am I able to review and repair my notes before the end of the day? Are my abbreviations, etc., manageable and comprehensible?
- Can I identify areas that need to be checked up on (by going to the text, TA, professor, tutor, etc.)?
- Have I built in a mechanism for focused review/reciting (e.g., questions in cue column)?
- Can the cues I’ve created be reformatted to make study sheets for upcoming exams? Have I scheduled time to take that next step?
- Is the level of detail in my notes appropriate to the professor’s expectations? Check in with the professor or TA, if you’re not sure.
