Reading & Annotating Texts–QUESTION
Starting to Work:
Regularly throughout the reading process, ask yourself questions.
Turn the headings/subheadings into questions. Establish a relationship with the text by making it relevant to you and your learning:
- What am I learning here?
- How does it relate to the goals of this chapter/section?
- What will this mean to me as a student in this class (and/or or my major)?
- What are the major pieces in this chunk of information (e.g., new terminology or concepts) that I’ll need to know?
- How does this material fit into what I’ve already learned?
If there are questions at the back of the chapter, periodically refer to them. Can you answer them yet? (hint: they tend to be arranged in the same order as the material is introduced).
